Our two anglers from the south of France have reserved ten days for us, with 6 days of fishing. Jimmy, whom I'd spoken to regularly by message before his arrival, comes to us armed to the teeth with the new Yuki Nuba Travel rods and the bevy of lures I've recommended. From the very first evening, he was eager to do battle with the local fish.
The first three days were average and difficult, with a variety of fish ranging from 5 to 15 kg, including trevally, pargo and small roosterfish. On day 4, we set ourselves the goal of catching a trophy fish such as a big roosterfish or a big cubera, so we opted to fish for livebait on rocks we know well. The livebait will be Cojinoas, a type of small trevally which, according to local fishermen, are a treat for big fish. After 10 minutes, the Cojinoa began to panic on the bottom, followed by a blistering start on an 80-lb jig rod. Jimmy led the way and, after some ten minutes of effort, we were able to admire a magnificent 23/25 kg Gallo caught at the corner of the mouth thanks to the use of a Circle hook.
Mission accomplished for the rooster, all that's missing is the big Cubera, and we're going to focus on that on the rocky heads of Cebaco Island. Jimmy had 3 great opportunities to make it happen, but he was unlucky with a resounding breakage, a stall and finally a dry one on the boat, unfortunately not the biggest!
The contract was fulfilled for the whole stay and we had some excellent moments of sharing and laughter. Thanks again to you both, and I hope to see you soon for the rematch in Panama!
