Tommy and Mathieu, our two anglers from the south of France, more precisely from Montpellier, are visiting us this October for 3 days of fishing in total immersion in the middle of nature. October being the month when the risk of rain is highest, I warn them about the weather conditions we're likely to encounter. After some discussion, they are two fishing "warriors" who are not afraid of the elements. The appointment is made and we're off for a three-day bivouac on a small deserted beach near punta Naranja.
Day 1 :
Average fishing with a few jacks (8/12 Kg), 3 roosterfish (10/15 Kg) and some very playful crocodile needles that are hard to avoid. All under relatively mild, sunny skies. The second boat with the camp's assembly team was busy all morning setting up everything, with Karine at the helm, so by lunchtime we discovered an almost-finished camp with kitchen, dining room and sleeping area, where we'd be spending the next two days. Late in the afternoon, as we were making our way back to camp, the storm arrived, bringing with it downpours, wind and apocalyptic weather conditions. Tarpaulins ripped off, tents blown away, everything soaking wet - in short, the whole shebang, and so our two warriors were forced to sleep in soaked tents just waiting to blow away. What an adventure!
Day 2 :
In the early hours of the morning, after a very complicated first night, the weather was quite good, allowing the rigging team to set up camp for the following night. Fishing was brisk right from the start of the day, with jacks again, but also for Tommy a very big surface attack followed by a big, uncertain fight, ending with the catch of a magnificent Cubera estimated at around 25 kg, released of course after the usual photos. The day was rich in fish of all kinds: Blue jacks, Jacks, Pargos and other Agulhas ended in apotheosis at the end of the afternoon on a rock called "el Brujo" (The Sorcerer) where our two anglers caught a dozen Rooster fish in 1 h 30, between 12 and 20 Kg. The return to camp is a rather festive affair. After a good shower in the little river to recover from our emotions, we enjoy delicious grilled Grouper fillets (catch of the day) accompanied by a good ratatouille cooked by Karine. The rain returned, but without consequence.
Day 3 :
A "normal" day at PURA PESCA PANAMA with a wide variety of fish and a very nice roosterfish for Mathieu with the return of the sun. Small yellowfin tuna, trevally, blue trevally and two very nice Cuberas attacks that didn't materialize on the Poppers.
Despite very difficult weather conditions, the fishing was average, with diversity and 2/3 very nice fish. It was a very successful trip, thanks to the perseverance and good humor of our two "warriors", so thank you again.
